Our Story

A note from our Founder + Creative Director

For as long as I can remember, I have had a great love and appreciation for different scents, how they made me feel and the memories they would elicit in me. From my parents cooking whilst growing up, and the aroma of spices and rich flavours making their way throughout the house, to trips overseas and the accompanying scents of colourful and vibrant markets, different cuisines and hotel lobbies. I have always felt energised and uplifted with the many scents of life. 

Over the years, I have bought and enjoyed many scented candles and fragrances, gifted them to others and received them as gifts. So often they have been associated with a memory, a time, a celebration or a place. I decided to take this journey further and start my own brand and Sentir House was born.

Sentir (sawn-teer) is an Old French word, meaning to feel, sense or perceive. It was shortened to sent in English and later became scent in the 17th century. I chose this name as I felt it would challenge me to create candles and fragrances that represent the perfect fusion of scents to connect with emotions and memories.

For thousands of years, people have turned to candles for illumination, a little bit of magic and for countless different rituals and celebrations. Today we continue these traditions, but we also fill up our homes and special places with light and scents for aesthetic pleasure. We indulge in the many scents of candles and the sounds and look of lit candles, for our relaxation and as a fun, sensual way of welcoming guests. Scented candles add a little extra to these experiences because they can evoke feelings of nostalgia, as every scent carries with it an associated emotion, memory and story. 

At Sentir House, each and every hand poured scented candle and room spray has been thoughtfully created with this in mind. A playful, curious and loving energy is infused into this process to ensure we create products which provide a unique multisensory experience. My dream is that every customer loves their Sentir House scented candles and room sprays as much as we love making them.
