Candle Care

We encourage proper candle care for all of our scented candles to ensure a wonderful and clean candle burn each and every time.

First Burn

After lighting your candle for the first time, allow for a burn time of 3 to 4 hours as this will ensure that the wax pool has reached the sides of the jar. Wax has a burn memory and each time you light your candle, it’s important to let it burn to the very edge so that your candle doesn’t tunnel. By doing this, your candle will last longer and perform better.

Wick Trimming

Before each burn, trim your wick to around 1/2 cm high. By doing this, you can prevent black soot which may dirty the candle vessel as well as get a longer burn time out of your candle. This also prevents mushrooming of the wick and allows the wick to stay centred. If you ever notice your wick is off side, you can gently position it back to the centre whilst the wax is still soft.

Candle Burn Space

In order to avoid any fires or injuries whilst burning your candle, please make sure to keep it in a safe location away from other flammable items, small children, pets or anything that has the potential to catch on fire. Never leave a burning candle unattended and avoiding windy areas is also advised as this can cause uneven burning and affect the scent throw.

Candle Burn Time

Do not burn a candle for longer than 4 hours at a time as too much carbon can collect on the wick which can cause the wick to “mushroom”. When this occurs, the candle flame can become large and unstable. Do not burn your candle all the way to the bottom as this may pose a risk of overheating the vessel. Leave around 1 inch of wax at the bottom.

Reusable Concrete Vessels

Once your candle is finished, you can then gently scrape out any remaining wax, remove the bottom of the wick and give the vessel a wash in warm, soapy water. Our handmade concrete candle vessels can then be recycled and reused around the house or as you please.
